Your skin is talking but are you listening?
Your skin can be like a subtle (or not so subtle!) messenger as it often shows what’s going on inside your body. Whether you’re glowing or struggling with dryness, breakouts or sensitivity, chances are it’s not just about what you put on your skin, but what’s happening beneath the surface too.
Is your skin thirsty from the inside?
We’ve all heard it, water really is one of the simplest (and cheapest!) ways to support your skin. Dehydrated skin can look dull and feel tight, and no product will quite hit the mark if you’re not hydrated from within. Keep your water bottle handy and pair that with a great skincare routine so that precious moisture doesn’t escape.
Everyday rays
Sun damage is sneaky and builds up over time. Wearing SPF daily and wearing protective clothing is one of the kindest things you can do for your skin long term. It helps slow down premature ageing and keeps your skin protected and resilient. Many make-ups these days also contain SPF so there’s no excuses!
Stress isn’t just in your head
When I’m feeling run down or stressed, my skin is always the first to show it. Sound familiar? Whether it’s breakouts, redness or just looking a bit ‘off’, stress can really throw things out of balance. Daily walks, breathing exercises, even five minutes of quiet can help more than you think. Your skin thrives when your nervous system does.
Eat your way to better skin
If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know I’m big on this one. A plate full of colour (and I don’t mean lollies) is one of the best gifts you can give your skin. Antioxidant-rich veggies, healthy fats, and plenty of fibre all help to calm inflammation and keep your skin vibrant. Simple, nourishing meals over diet fads always.
Routine or ritual?
Skincare is more than slapping the products on and running out the door. It’s a chance to check in with yourself. A few mindful minutes morning or night can make a huge difference in how you feel. Cleanse gently, apply your face oil with intention, and breathe. Skincare truly does equal self-care.
No nasties, just the good stuff
This one’s personal for me. After being diagnosed with endometriosis and facing fertility challenges, I learnt how quickly harmful ingredients can make their way into our bloodstream. It takes just 26 seconds. That’s why everything I make is free from hormone disruptors and toxins - because our health comes first. There’s little wonder I’m so passionate about keeping skincare safe!
Sleeping is healing
There’s a reason they call it beauty sleep. While you rest, your skin is hard at work - repairing, regenerating, renewing. A good night’s sleep is one of the best ways to support your skin and your overall wellbeing. Aim to wind down without screens where you can. Trust me, it makes a difference. If you’re lying in bed ready to sleep but you’re still buzzing from the day, try some slow breathing or pop on a meditation (and then of course put the phone down!).
When your body moves, your skin glows!
You don’t need a gym membership, just move your body in a way that feels good. An outdoor walk, a ten minute routine, a stretch, yoga, dancing around the kitchen.. it all boosts circulation, helps detoxify the skin and gives you that natural glow we all love.
Healthy hormones, healthy skin
Hormonal fluctuations whether it be from teen years, pregnancy, or perimenopause can cause changes like dryness, thinning, and loss of elasticity. Lower estrogen and progesterone slow collagen production, while rising androgens may trigger acne, especially around the chin. Working with a health professional and adjusting your skincare routine to work with your skin, rather than against it, can help you balance these hormonal shifts and keep your skin glowing!
And there you have it…
You don’t need a personal trainer, a dietitian and a cupboard full of products. Just a few beautiful, effective essentials and some small actionable daily habits. You’ve got this!
